Google Commits $15bn to Build Artificial Intelligence Data Center in India

Computing Infrastructure
The Nation is a key destination for data centers due to its inexpensive data services and quickly expanding internet user base.

Google's parent company the Alphabet conglomerate will invest fifteen billion dollars to establish an artificial intelligence data center in southern India's Andhra Pradesh state.

The facility, to be established in the coastal city of Visakhapatnam, will become a segment of Google's international system of AI centres distributed over 12 countries.

"It stands as the greatest AI facility that we are committing funds to worldwide, apart from the US," the CEO of Google Cloud said at an conference in capital Delhi this Tuesday, adding that the funding will be allocated throughout the next half-decade.

This declaration occurs when US President Donald Trump has been encouraging American companies to prioritise investments within the country.

The Expanding Position of India in AI Infrastructure

India has emerged as a key destination for AI data centers. The nation's affordable data pricing and quickly expanding internet user base have established it as a focal point for expansion of cloud and artificial intelligence for technology leaders.

"This center will introduce our cutting-edge technology to enterprises and users in the nation, accelerating AI innovation and driving growth across the country," said Alphabet's chief executive Sundar Pichai.

Project Details

An official contract to conclude the venture will be signed this Tuesday, local government officials announced.

"This represents a massive leap for our state's digital future, innovation, and worldwide position," stated the state's technology minister Nara Lokesh, the technology minister.

The project will merge cloud and AI infrastructure with renewable energy systems and an expanded fibre-optic network.

The State's Data Hub Strategy

The venture is included in the local administration's strategy to create 6GW of data centre capacity by 2029.

Computing facilities are tangible infrastructures that contain the networking and computing devices that entities use to collect, process, store, and distribute data.

They contain servers, data storage systems and connectivity devices like routers and firewalls, in addition to the necessary power and cooling systems to function properly.

Funding Benefits

Across Andhra Pradesh, the government has been granting subsidised land and electricity to attract global investors.

Market Development

The nation's data center sector has expanded quickly over the past five years, exceeding the one gigawatt capacity threshold in 2024 and approximately tripling its capability from 2019.
