Around 50 automobiles have been smeared with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the German town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.
Cars, exterior walls and postal boxes were defaced, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they stated in a release.
Officers report they were notified in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a resident discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued fluid.
The fluid had been applied in the shape of a banned symbol, they stated.
Law enforcement then discovered numerous other vandalized vehicles and house walls in the surrounding area.
These symbols are illegal in Germany under regulations outlawing the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.
Officials report preliminary tests indicate the substance was likely blood from a person.
"Currently there is no clue as to where it came from; investigators are currently not aware of any injuries in association with the event," they commented.
Municipal representatives said they were working "to solve the incident" and have appealed to the public for information.
An important representative commented the incident rendered him stunned and needed to be addressed promptly.
"This event strikes at the core of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the far-right violent incident half a decade ago," he wrote on a platform, mentioning the death of nine people by a gunman targeting residents of immigrant origin in five years prior.
